Are You a Candidate for Bariatric Surgery?

The American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery ASMBS, has set up guidelines for who is a candidate for bariatric surgery. 

If your insurance company is paying for your operation, these are the guidelines that will be used.  If you are paying cash for your operation, either in the United States or Mexico, these guidelines may be relaxed.

Guidelines for Bariatric Surgery:

  1. BMI is Greater than 40

  2. BMI is between 35-40 with either Obstructive Sleep Apnea or Diabetes Mellitus

  3. If your BMI is between 30-35 and you have significant Type II Diabetes.
